Bollywood Actress Sridevi Died: Why Heart Attacks on the Rise in Women

Indian Popular Actress Sridevi breathed her last breath on Saturday night following cardiac arrest, India media reported. She was 54. Sridevi’s brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor has confirmed the death of first female superstar of Bollywood, according to India media. Sridevi was reportedly with her husband Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi at the time of her death in Dubai. As per new study has found women are three times more likely to die after experiencing a heart attack, the Daily Mail reported. As per last year reports that low levels of estrogen, due to changing lifestyle and other co-morbid conditions, is among the top five reasons for younger women developing cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).

The survey, “Visualising the Extent of Heart Disease in Indian Women”, by Heal Foundation was conducted by 577 cardiologists from across the country and mapped the trends of cardiovascular diseases among women. It revealed that 54% of the doctors observed a 16 to 20% rise in CVDs among women in the last five years.

There have been a number of instances of women with no exposure to smoking or drinking and no family history of heart attacks have suffered heart attacks.

A 2017 study found cardiovascular disease is a major health issue in Indian women and 41 percent of the female population in the country suffers from an abnormal lipid profile.

Sedentary lifestyle, intake of saturated fat, sugar, and salt are major contributing factors.
